Korakuen kert
Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa (Six Attributes Garden) dates back to the Enpo Period(1673-81) and was destroyed by fire in 1759. After a complete restoration the garden opened to the public in 1874. Flora: 8,750 trees and 183 species of plants. The garden is well known for its Karasaki Pine, Flying Geese Bridge, the oldest fountain in Japan and the Yukitsuri, a technique for preserving pines, azaleas and fruit trees from heavy snow. Trees are given extra support by bamboo poles with ropes stretched from the top of a tree to the lower branches like an umbrella to protect it from snow damage in winter. Photo Gallery |
